Matt super effective!

6Dec/070

the interweb does exist in the desert

Okay so I'm back on the net though in much restricted situations... I have like 6 days 20 hours of net to hi jack off this example of australian wireless broadband for rural australia. Yeah go you John howard it's your damn fault we have shitty net out here, though we do HAVE it.

it's intermittent, thus taking over a day to post..

msn does not work and I don't see that it will, nor does email.

So far?

Plane trip was good enough went smoothy, fuck we have some good scenery and when clouds are viewed up close with polarised lenses FAIRY FLOSS!!! Yeah thats great till your plane gets struck by lightening.. which happened to the folks taking the plane BACK to perth. Whoops.
Im just south of port headland and just under camp one (the one that got taken out by the cyclone in 2006) oh yay. Though they love to reassure us that we're safe here, well you know except for the flooding :p . When I say HOT I really do mean it, we're not all that far from the hottest town in the country, Marble Bar. So 40 degree days are common and we're due for some 50 degree + days.

The job is some bloody hard work;
Up at 4 am and off to breakfast by at the latest 5
start just before 6 am
work till 8 and break
work till 12 and break
work till 4 (yeah right, unless they aren't RR rooms lets say 6pm)

The work is meant to involve about 30-35 rooms a day, but rooms used for fly in fly out contractors always come up in big lots on monday-thursday I had about 54 rooms on my list today (11 rotations, 7 from the day before and 36 for the new day). I couldn't get to 23 of them by days end... holy shit they expect some stupid shit some days. I didn't get 36 of those rooms until after 12:30, I'd have gone till 6 but people were coming back to their rooms..

Dinner starts at like 4:30 and I'm always late but the food is always there and always good :p so no complaints there.

You know I may actually miss the bank... nope I don't, never mind.....

The people are good, but damn shift rotations to hell, the new people fricking suck, very much up themselves. But other than that, very good.

There's an important note to anyone doing cleaning for a living up here: GLOVES and WATER!
I forgot my gloves today and fuck my fingers hurt from all those chemicals.

Doing this gives you insight into peoples/animals lives;

Never become an offsider unless your aim to to become a mound of dirt.
women will always carry too many skin/hair products than is ever necessary in the desert
miners are the hairiest things on earth besides the welsh and maybe a breed of husky dog.
Flies suck! period
we have the weirdest feral animals...

3 days down and 25 to go.

Matt.
